With the Holidays quickly approaching I want to share some ways to give your dorm some festive cheer! There are more than one way to show holiday cheer other than a christmas tree. This is my first Christmas away from home so I can no longer have my Mom be in charge of the decorating. So this year I have a chance to develop my own design style and decide what I do and don't like doing for holiday decorations. Since I'm in college I don't want christmas decorations that I have to buy and then store since space is limited in a dorm. The majority of these ideas you can do with items you have around your house. 1. My favorite way to show some spirit is by decorating your door. The door is such an amazing blank space to decorate for Christmas but also other holidays! You don't have to spend a lot of money deocrating a door to make it feel more like a holiday. Simply cut out shapes can give it that missing holiday cheer. I went around my building and some of the others in my complex and looked at all the doors. These were some of my favorite dorm doors that I found! 2. Another way to decorate is with lights. Lights are inexpensive and come in a variety of colors. I love this idea of making a tree out of lights! You could make other shapes out of lights. Lights bring the feeling of the holidays so well without being to much work to put up or take down. This light tree works perfectly for college students who have limited floor space or don't want to buy a expensive fake tree since most dorm don't allow live ones. This tree made of lights even looks incrediable with the lights off. 3. The third way to decorate is by making a fake fire place. This is so perfect for renters, college students or any one who just wants a fire place. Fire places just give such a festive holiday feel especially when you hang stocking on them. There ar a lot of fake fire place ideas out there but I love that this one is made out of paper and card board so when you are done with it you can just recycle it. I didn't do this fireplace but one of friends did and I just love how homey it make his dorm living room 4. Bring the smells of the holidays into your space. This one gives you lots of options to implement on your own. One of my personal favorites are those awesome smelling pine cones, wall flowers, candle melters. In my opinion there is nothing better than a home that smells just so good!
