Its finally coming together!!!! The last two days I have hung a mirror and fix the broken curtain rod so the living room is looking like it now has a purpose. Today I'm going to show you how I hang mirror, picture frames and etc. The way I do it is a little different that more people. Some people use tooth paste and those fancy tools but I use simple math. So below is what the wall looked like before the mirror. It is just plain and feels like it is just missing something. I originally wanted to do a round mirror but we found this one for so cheap at Home Depot for only $23. After looking at this one we just felt that the traditional lines of it being square just fit better in this room than a round mirror would be. 1. Measure An Item for ReferenceThe first step to do is measure some thing for a reference point. Usually you hang a picture frame or mirror over a piece of furniture or in the middle of a wall. I choose to hang this mirror over a piano so I measure how long the piano is. You do this to show use this to center the item you are hanging. 2. Measure The Item You are hangingThe Second Step is to measure what even you are measuring. After we know the width of the item we are hanging I take this measurement and the item we are using for a reference and subtract them. So 58'' - 35.5'' = 22.5'' we then divide it by two because there are two sides to get it evenly hung. This is so we know how many inches on each side there will be on either side of the item. For my mirror on each side is 11.25'' from the edge of the piano. 3. Measure From Edge of item to hookThis is the last step to measure from the edge of the frame to the hardware that you are going to hang it from. The mirror I got says not to use picture wire so I just measure to that but if you are using picture wire with just one hook measure to the center. 4. Add the two numbersWe take the 11.25'' from the edge of piano to the edge of frame and the 3.5'' from the edge of frame to the hardware. So from the edge of the piano to where I need to put a hole is 14.75''. Now we just need the vertical measurements. 5. Decide how high to hang the item in COMPARISON to your reference itemFor this step you hold your item were you want it and decide how many inches about your reference item you want it to hang from the bottom edge. 6. Measure From Bottom Edge of item to hardwareMeasure from the bottom edge of item to the hardware (specifically where the hole would be). If your reference item is above what you are hanging then you use the top edge of your item to the hardware. Mine is 21'' from the bottom edge to where the nail will be 7. Add the two numbersFrom the Piano to the frame is 7'' or whatever you want plus the bottom edge to the hardware which is 21'' so with the two numbers you know how high the hole needs to be. 8. Take the two numbersYou take the number we just found and the other number showing the width that is needed. With those two numbers you can find the point the is the high and wide from the reference point. 9. Finally Put Holes in the Wall!We know the point where the hole should be based on the measurements we took so mark the wall and pound the nails in! VOila!!!!So glad to get this up and start on some other projects! Next week we are redoing the entry way floor and getting a new rug for the living room so check back for updates.
