It is Savvy Saturday!! You guys know I'm a college student and that means that I'm broke, busted and can't be trusted as my grandfather says! So I love a good deal but sometimes you find something you want that's not on sale but you can't really afford it. So today I'm going to show you all my tips and tricks on how to save as much as possible on pretty much anything from almost anywhere. Sadly it won't be as much as a saving as the time I got a Brand New 9x12 West Elm Rug for only $75 but I will show you how I got this console table worth $250 for only $86! So this is a console table that I bought for room so this is a little sneak peek on what I'm doing in my room. This console table from Kohl's and normal costs $250. So how did I save so much money?! PLANNING!!!I know it is convenient to just go and buy something but if you just plan a little bit you can save so much! There are a lot of options for online shoppers to save with only a click of a button or two. If you use Google chrome there is a web extension called Honey that shows you all the coupons available on the website you are on. Honey this takes the codes and plugs them in for you and tells you which one works and how much you saved. Honestly it's that simple to add the extension and then when you are ready to check out let Honey find you the code that will save you the most!
Another extension that is my favorite is Wiki-buys. It is similar to Honey that it plugs in the codes and keeps the one the saves you the most but on top of that you get a little bit back on every qualifying purchase through Ebates! When you click on the Wiki-buys extension it plugs in codes and if the website offers cash back through Ebates it will activate it at the same time. Honey has cash back but I haven't even earned a dollar in over 1 year of use. I have made over $20 in the last 4 months just by clicking on the Ebates or Wiki-buys extension before I check out online much. I honestly don't shop online that much so I was impressed about how much I got back. Just from the Mid Century console table from Kohl's I got $5 back on my purchase. The percentage back varies depending on the website and some websites don't have any back. It is so easy to use Honey, Wiki-buys or Ebates instead of having to search the web for coupons that are don't work half the time. There are other extensions out there but these are my personal favorites and all opinions expressed in this post are my own. Buying coupons are one of my favorite ways to save online and in stores. Now I know what you are thinking how does buying a coupon save money because you are spending money. On Ebay a lot of people sell coupons and coupon codes to a variety of different prices. So on the console table I bought from Kohl's I used a coupon code I bought off Ebay. So the console table was $139.99 on sale down from $250. Kohl's allows you to use up to 4 coupons per transaction online. So Kohl's had a $10 off $35 which I used and they also had a 15% off you whole purchase both of which I found using Honey and Ebates. I looked on Ebay for a better coupon and found someone selling a 25% off you total purchase at Kohl's for only $4! Now make sure you do that math to make sure it's worth it to buy a coupon so with the 15% coupon I was going to save $19 but with the 25% coupon I would save $32. But the coupon costs $4 so I only save $28 with this coupon but to me an extra $9 savings was worth it. So current cost of the console table On sale for $139.99 (down from $250) - $10 off $35 (found using Honey and Ebates) - 25% off total ------------------------------------------- $103.34 with tax In addition to using the extensions listed above and buying coupons. I use gift cards. I'm not talking about gift cards you have laying around the house (you can use those too to save!) I'm talking about buying discounted gift cards. There are a couple websites out there that you can buy gift cards. Here are the ones I have used before. So this is were the planning come in. Most of these websites take 1-2 days to send you the code to your gift card if you bought a card that is electronic and not physical. Make sure to read what you are buying some can only be used online and others only in stores. Some are physical cards and must be shipped taking longer to get them. I bought a Kohl's gift card worth $100 for only $85. That's 15% saving in addition to coupons. The percentage off the gift cards depend on the store and time of year. When I bought my gift cards I had 1000 different gift cards to choose from. Some were only a few dollars and others were $1000 so you have a lot of options for you price point. Another tip I have for buying gift cards is don't buy a gift card worth more than the price of what you are buying. Here is an example of what I'm saying with the console table I bought from Kohl's. The console table after coupons was $103 and I bought worth $100 gift card. I purchases a card for less that what I need and here is why. Gift cards get lost and go unused when they have a few bucks left on them. The whole point in buying gift cards is to save money not lose it! If you shop at the place you are buying a gift card a lot and know that you will use a gift card with more money than what you need at the moment then go ahead and get a bigger card. $103.34 with tax - $100.00 Gift Card ------------------------------------------- $3.34 I put on a credit card So total that I paid from the console table and buying coupons, gift cards $85 gift card (worth $100) $4 Coupon (25% saving me $28 after cost) $3.34 left over after gift cards ------------------------------- Total = $91.34 But I used Ebates so I got $5 back for my purchase for a total of $86.34!!! I also got $10 kohl's cash back but I'm not counting it since its not cold hard cash earned. I did the same thing I listed above for Home Depot. I'm working on a large project for my room (more on that soon) that was going to cost $60 so I bought a $60 gift card from Granny at $53. I saved $7 just by planning ahead one in advance. So on this purchase I saved $163.66!!!! Have use used any tips I listed to save money? Or do you have different ways to save money? Which ever one I would love to here from you down in the comments! -Addison
