Ottomans and more ottomans!!!First, sorry for not posting much this last month but I hope to do much better this month so lets start off with a Thrift Store Thursday post!!! I found some great finds this past two weeks at the thrift store! I just love thrift shopping because you never know what you are going to find. So lets see what I found for this weeks post! World Market Hammered Coffee TableThis amazing coffee table was in the yard area of DI! As soon as I saw I knew I had to get it. I didn't have a cart and Cece didn't have a phone on her so I couldn't call her to bring me a cart. The ottoman weighs 35 lbs but its not really the weight that was the issue but the size. It is 36'' by 36'' making it awkward to carry by myself. So I ended up rolling it 'til I found an empty abandoned cart. I was stopped by so many people once it was in my cart asking me what it was. A lot of people thought it looked like a snake charmers basket or a very large cooking pot! Comment below what you think it looks like? The sticker said it was $45 but was able to get them to go down on the price to $35 because it was really dirty, had paint all over it and had a lot of tape residue (more on that later). Hey it never hurts to ask! While still at the thrift store I looked up on my phone "hammered metal coffee table" since it didn't have any tags on it. I found that it is from World Market (here is the link to their website) and they still sell it for $299 at the time I'm writing this post! I got it for a little over 10% of the current retail price. What a steal! I really liked this piece because first off hammered metals are really in right now you can find a lot of hammered metals at West Elm and similar stores. Second, most of our house has silver finishes. A coffee table or an ottoman are somethings I have really been looking for lately and felt like this one could go really nice in our space. As you can tell from the photo were have a lot of silver finishes in our living room but there was something I didn't think about (try to guess what mistake I made while we go on). After we got it home I started working on cleaning it up. There was tape residue all around the ottoman where someone had taped it to keep the lid with it. A lot of thrift stores lose pieces to different items from the time they arrive to the time they are sold. I ended up using Goo Gone and Magic Erasers to get all the gunk off. If you have never used Goo Gone then you are missing out! This stuff works wonder on sticker residue and many other things! Here it is all done!!! As you can see the top has so discoloration from the paint on the lid but you could hide it will items and books. So here is what I realized after I brought it home. The style doesn't go with our current living room. I got to excited about the awesome deal I was getting and forgot the style of the piece. We have a very traditional style and this is not traditional. So ultimately we didn't keep it but sold it on the classified ads for $100 one week after I bought it. So that was nice to make $65 on it but it was a ton of work to get all that residue off of it. other Awesome things I found this week!I just love this dresser!!! I think it has such unique piece. To be honest I really wanted to get this piece but it had a really bumpy and weird finish that would be hard to remove and I'm not currently looking for a dresser. Also it was $65 which is more than I want to pay for something that is going to take hours of work. Now looking back I regret not getting it. ☹️ I mean look at those lines and beveled edges! Here is the dresser from RH. One of the bed things about thrift shopping is you have to make quick decisions and sometimes they work out and other times you end up with something that doesn't work or you regret not getting an item. Here is another item I thought was cool. I was looking through the large frame and found this great bamboo framed mirror. This could be really cute painted but didn't get it because I have no spot for a large mirror but it was a cute mirror Okay onto my favorite!!!!! The perfect ottoman!!! When I saw this I knew that it would be perfect in the living room after the other one didn't work out. This is 37'' by 37'' which is around the size I have been looking for. I plan on recovering it since we don't have mustard in our color scheme and it was pretty gross. This was only $20 which is lower than what I thought it was going to be since the DI normally over prices a lot of items. Lots of times you will see lame dressers for over $100 up to $300 and ottomans are normal around $50 so I was super happy to have it be so low! Check back this week to see it all recovered and done! It turned so nice and I have some awesome tips on how to make reupholstering cheap and easy!! So stay turned.
As always what was your favorite item from this weeks thrift store thrusday!? I would love to here from you! - Addison
