It's Thrift Store Thursday!!! I love thrift store shopping and am so excited to announce a new weekly post just for my thrift finds. Since this is my first post on this subject I will show you some of my past greatest finds! In today's post I'm going to focus on my furniture and home decor finds but soon I'll do a post on all my other finds. I live less than 5 minutes from a Desert Industries which is a thrift store that has clothes, home decor, large selection of furniture and shoes. Desert Industries (DI) often has more furniture than Savers and Goodwill. The Restore that I spoke of on Tuesday this week only has home items so where I shop depends on what I'm feeling and looking for. Since I only have one room that I have full power over to decorate I usually just go to the DI. I think my favorite thing about thrift store is the chance to find something amazing. The most frustrating thing about thrift stores is seeing someone who got to the item I wanted first. So lets see some of my best finds to date! 1. Mother of Pearl Herringbone Vase So let me tell you the story of how I got this amazing vase. It was a typical day at the thrift store this summer right before I left for college. I was at the DI looking at shoes when I looked up and saw this in the cart of a woman. As soon as I laid eyes on it I knew I was not going to leave without it. So how did I end up with it when I didn't purchase it? Well, I'm going to tell you how. The woman who had the case in her cart was looking at other items she had and was putting some back. She had picked up the vase and I could tell she wasn't 100% sure she wanted to buy it so I knew I had a chance. That was when the stalking began. I ended up following her around the DI for over 35 minutes in hope that she would put it down and I could get it before someone else got to it. Well, long story short she was in line to check out and still had it in her cart. I still had a little bit of hope that she would pass on it when she got to the cashier but she didn't and I ended up watching her walk to her car with the vase in her hand. I felt like I had just failed at thrifting and went back to clothes shopping. About 10 minutes later I looked out the windows of the store to see her still putting bags in her car. I thought of the quote about 20 seconds of insane courage so I gave my cart of clothes to my sister and walked out of the store. I went up to the women and told her how much I loved the vase she got and asked if I could buy it from her. She said that I was so cute that I could just have it!!! I felt bad so I paid her $4 which is over double what she had just paid for it. I could not believe that she let me have it! This was the first time that I had ever gone up to another customer in hopes of getting something they had. This is a picture of the bottom of the vase that shows the original price. I only paid $4!!!! When I got this vase 6 months ago you could still but it but now its sold out everywhere so this next picture was the only one I could find on the internet. Here are some of the other items that are in this collection 2. West Elm Rug 9x12 This is the exact rug that I found at a discount store for only $75 for a 9x12 wool rug!!!! Right now at West Elm, this rug is selling for $899. I found this absolutely amazing steal at a store called Crazy Charlies. The store sold items from Pottery Barn, West Elm and many more that had been returned or had been damaged. Many of their items had been embroidered with the wrong spellings. This is the same store that I got the curtains with pom pom trim originally from Pottery Barn Teen for my college bed skirt for only $3 (you can see that here). Well, the store didn't do very well and after a few months, it went out of business. I happened to be driving home from the DI and decided to stop at Crazy Charlies (this finds also happens to be on the same day that I got the amazing vase from earlier in this post). The store had everything 50% off since they were going out of business. I was walking around and spotted this rug. At first, I thought something was wrong with it since it was at this store but I pulled it out and it was perfect. When I saw the tag on the back said West Elm I looked it up and saw that they were still selling it on the website so I had to get it. It was $150 which is already an amazing deal and I figured that they wouldn't do 50% off since it was in perfect shape but they did! So I only paid $75 for this rug! 3. VEGA by Morris Mid Century Desk This is an incredible Mid Century Desk made this a VEGA made by Morris. I found this at the DI for only $35. A dresser by VEGA is worth $2000+ if its in good condition. This desk redone is worth $800 or more. There is no great story to go along with this one but here are some other of my favorite pieces by Morris. I would love to find a set mid century nightstands for my $150 room makeover at a thrift store! 4. MID-CENTURY LANE ACCLAIM SIDE TABLE I found a side table on the side of the road. The only picture I have is hard to tell the detail so I used this one I found on the internet. This is a LANE acclaimed mid century side table that sells on Etsy and Ebay for $250 and up. This is a picture of what I found on the side of the road. I couldn't believe that someone would throw this out! The top needs some glue and needs to be restained but other than that its awesome. 5. Vintage Campaigner Desk This amazing campaign desk was at the DI for $60. It is amazing because it has all the original hardware but its hard to see in the picture since the last owner painted over most of the corner brackets. I plan on redoing it. You can see a lot of campaigner style furniture redone or modern on pinterest. So tell me about your thrift store finds! What was your favorite find from todays post?
